A brief update:
June 6th marked our second anniversary as a Scottish Charity and although we have been restricted in terms of how we could operate over the last 14 months we do still believe we have made progress in delivering things that matter most.
We’ve created something very special with our Community Fridge and the “ATAB” – Access to all Box, which is kindly supported by Aldi Scotland Newton Stewart, Co-op Newton Stewart & Wigtown and Sainsbury’s Newton Stewart. This has gone from strength to strength and would be nothing without the volunteers who deliver this initiative – we applaud their efforts.
Not only that but they have also reached out to younger groups and support their food based projects too and work closely with Youth Work D&G. neighbourly have assisted this further with a recent grant, which we really appreciate.
Our Recycle, Reuse, Resale and Rebuy facility is almost complete and will open very soon. This is a new initiative and only time will tell if it’s a success or not, but online sales etc have proved very successful. Monetary, household items, clothes and furniture donations have been so kindly given to us and are all greatly appreciated.
“Your Centre” is seeing a return to some form of normality and bookings are returning. We are housing the Bravehearts abc at the centre until they can return to their fabulous state of the art leisure facility achieved through dedicated hard work and commitment by all concerned at All Roads Lead to Whithorn
Youth Work D&G have already returned for their Friday night sessions and we welcome the youth back into the Centre.
The last 14 months have been a long road to recovery for some and we are keen to support new groups and enterprise to the centre and for that reason there has been no increase to the cost of hiring space at the SMCC. We have been busy tidying the front of the building, doing some prep work for new paint and started with putting some colour back into and onto the building.
Our “Living Room” a project that started many months ago is picking up pace again and it is anticipated this will have a grand opening very soon as well. We look forward to welcoming users to this neutral space, to socialise and interact with others. This room can be hired by anyone for an event.
New recreational groups have emerged from the pandemic, including South Machars Cycling Club who meet and use the centre and who’ve already achieved their first Bronze award towards putting cycling firmly onto the Southern Machars cycle map.
Anyone looking to book any rooms at the SMCC should do this via the Room Hire button above.
